895 West End Avenue | NYC
Our team provided FISP | Local Law 11 inspection and reporting services as a Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector (QEWI), and served as architect and coordinator for a highly complex, building-wide window replacement program at 895 West End Avenue. Unit owners were divided between installing aluminum replacement windows and replicating the original wood windows; a split approach that the Landmarks Preservation Commission rarely permits. Through careful negotiation and technical detailing, LPC approved a mixed solution allowing both systems within the same façade.
The challenge was execution. We developed a unified exterior appearance that made the aluminum and wood windows visually indistinguishable from the street, despite involving two different manufacturers and installers. The work required strict oversight of detailing, finishes, installation sequencing, and tolerances, along with intensive coordination of access, schedules, and, inevitably, strong and divergent personalities within the building.
