John Paul Murray, RA, QEWI
Principal | Architect

John Paul Murray is a licensed architect, QEWI, and building-science specialist with more than thirty-five years of experience across architectural design, building-envelope diagnostics, and construction in New York City. His career integrates hands-on construction management, façade restoration, roofing and waterproofing systems, forensic architecture, commercial and residential design, and long-term stewardship of complex urban buildings.

John Paul founded caseworks in 2000 after working in both architectural and construction roles, gaining early field experience in masonry repair, structural steel rehabilitation, roofing, waterproofing, and envelope restoration. This practical foundation informs his approach to design and investigation, providing a depth of technical understanding uncommon in traditional architectural practice. He has since led envelope and design projects for hundreds of buildings throughout New York City and the region, including major commercial towers, landmark structures, cultural institutions, and high-profile residential properties.

A Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector certified by the NYC Department of Buildings, John oversees FISP façade inspections, reporting, stabilization, and repair programs for some of the city’s most demanding properties. His expertise includes material diagnostics, building forensics, restoration planning, adaptive reuse, design–build residential work, commercial interiors, and full architectural projects that require close coordination of structural, envelope, and life-safety systems.

In addition to practice, John has served for more than a decade as an Adjunct Professor at the Spitzer School of Architecture at City College of New York, where he has taught construction technology, forensic architecture, and design realization. He previously taught building technology at the Cooper Union School of Architecture. His academic work reflects the same philosophy that drives his practice: architecture is inseparable from craft, materials, and the physical realities of construction.

John Paul holds a Master in Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Architecture from The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at The Cooper Union.
